Functional training, as a concept, first showed up in the physiotherapy practices, in which the doctors rehabilitated people with injuries by making them perform everyday movements, like pushing, pulling, squatting, rotating, etc. The idea behind making this a generalised exercise routine is that these are movements the body should be making.
