Fight monotony with this alternative treadmill workout!
A treadmill workout doesn’t have to be a repetitive, purely cardio routine, you just need to get a little creative with it. (And I’m not talking about getting your treadmill to face the telly!)
The treadmill is most people’s go-to for an indoor (at the gym or at home) workout. However, people usually see two down sides to it:
- it is purely a cardio workout, so it doesn’t actually help you tone up;
- often referred to as an “hamster wheel”, many people find it a boring, repetitive workout;
Well, it doesn’t have to be any of the above! You just need to spice up your routine a bit, and you can do so by trying a few of the exercises bellow for an alternative treadmill workout:
Walking Lunges:
These are good for you legs on their own, but you can also add some weights for an extra challenge.
Backward Hill Climb:
Get your treadmill inclined as much as you can. You will feel it in your calves. To get your arms involved you can grab dumbbells and do bicep curls.
Side Shuffle:
You can gradually increase the speed, make sure it is always above your normal walking pace.
Butt Kicks:
Focus on engaging your glute and harmstring muscles.
Walking Plank:
Keep your hips levelled, to avoid a twisting motion when alternating hands. Feel it in your core, not on your back.
Jumping Squats:
Set the speed to no faster than half your average walking pace. This one is not about the speed!
High Knee Skip:
Drive your right knee toward your chest as you push off of the left foot, jumping as high (and as controlled) as you can with tall posture and core tight.
Buy/Hire your treadmill:
