How to turn Yoga into a HIIT Session
During winter, you might be tempted to switch your icy jogging trails for a warm yoga studio. But while yoga is known to confer plenty of physical and mental benefits, many people do not regard it as a very effective fat burning workout. Despite this, reports state that it can be just as effective, if you pick up the pace. Yoga practices can turn Yoga into a HIIT Session (High Intensity Interval Training) just by upping it’s speed.
Most of the mainstream yoga focuses on performing slow and long poses, which challenges your muscles and helps you tone up. However, researchers have found that faster yoga sessions burn more calories and require more effort. They also found that transitioning from pose to pose is what requires the most energy.
The study’s author, states that posing at a ramped-up speed (in the experiment’s case 3 times as fast) turned Yoga into an HIIT Session. Moving from pose to pose is akin to sprinting, while the actual posing serves as a resting period.
You can apply this method alone, by moving from pose to pose rather quickly, or follow a power yoga class.
